Friday, 23 October 2009
National Security Minister Senator Dwight Nelson has reacted angrily to news that yet another policeman has been cut down at the hands of criminals.
Constable Delroy Brown, 31, became the ninth cop to be killed this year, when he was shot dead while visiting a friend in Seaview Gardens, Kingston 11 area Thursday night.
In a release Friday morning, Mr. Nelson said the murderous action has once again brought to the fore, the dangers faced by the security forces.
Two days back at his desk and Senator Nelson is being forced to issue a rallying call for law abiding citizens to stand up and reclaim our country from cowardly individuals.
He asserted that it is time for communities to forge a new relationship with the police force which is based on cooperation and mutual respect.
Senator Nelson said the attack on the armed forces also highlights the situation being experienced by civilians without the means to defend themselves.
He said there is no doubt that the senseless killing of Constable Brown has jolted members of the security forces by its sheer brutality.
According to Senator Nelson, despite this unprovoked attack, he is urging all members of the police force to be calm but strong in their resolve to bring the perpetrators of this cowardly act to swift justice.
The National Security Minister insisted that he will continue to give his unequivocal support to the policemen and women of the force as they tackle the scourge of crime and violence permeating the island.
He also extended condolences to the policeman's family and colleagues and urged law abiding citizens who may have any information that can assist in bringing those responsible to justice, to come forward or call 811; 311 or 119.
